A Good Thing

You know how so many people have complicated relationships with their mother? Not me. She is fantastic and beloved by all who know her. I can’t wait to share her with you. Without further ado, here is my mother. XOXO, Carrie.

When Carrie was a freshman in college she wrote a paper about her mother called, “Too Much of a Good Thing” about some of the weird, frugal things I did to save money and save the planet.  Carob Easter eggs, a spoon of unsulphured molasses and a spoon of olive oil in a cup of hot water which became Mommy’s molasses cookie (no, she didn’t eat it.)  She claims all she ever had at dinner was a wedge of iceberg with ranch dressing (but after all she did say once she liked it and voila, my dinner problems were solved.)


In those days I was told by a school counselor, “Nan, the sky will not fall in if you serve their sandwiches on white bread.” A lot has changed since then, and more people have accepted the notion of incorporating healthy foods into family lifestyles. Food trends have come and gone, but I have found that good solid wholesome ideas remain constant. But sometimes my ideas are still seen as weird. And I am looking forward to sharing some of those weird ideas with you.
